3D type installation - HONG KONGMAR 2024
A project exploring type as art and understanding type in 3 dimensional spaces. The project is part of the second assignment at OCAD University's Winter 2024 Experimental Typography class with Paul van Dongen. The installation piece is intended to celebrate our hometowns' culture, heritage or story. This installation is an attempt in re-designing the breakwater structures in Hong Kong, creating new structures that can be both perceived as an art piece as well as a functional structure. The word used for this design is 吹水 (pronounced 'chui sui' in Cantonese) and it directly translates to 'blow water' in English. The phrase is used among the Cantonese speakers in Hong Kong as a phrase loosely referring to 'chit-chatting'. The typeface is designed and sculpted on Blender after developing hand-drawn sketches. Rendering and mock-ups were done on Adobe Dimension and Adobe Photoshop.
